Splash Park to Open on Thursday

Due to the extreme heat expected for Thursday, the splash park will be open.

Due to the extreme heat forecasted for tomorrow, June 9, the has decided to open the and . The beach and splash park will open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Memberships will be available for sale.

"Because it's so hot and they’re predicting close to 100 degrees we decided to open it up and let the kids go down,” said Chris Nelson, Director of the Rec. Department.

According to Nelson, the town will make a decision on whether or not to open the Splash Park for the season on Thursday.

“We’re flirting with keeping it open now through the end of the season because I have staff,” Nelson said. “Depending on what the turnout is, I’m most likely looking to open it up through the whole season.”

The park will typically be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but Nelson said that if he has the staff, he’ll try and keep it open later in order to accommodate families who come home late from work.

“A lot of preschools ended, and I was thinking, these little kids need some place to go; it's going to be really hot,” Nelson said. “If it’s slow in the morning, then we can work out some of the kinks and be set for the afternoon.”

A residential season pass for adults cost $30, while it costs $15 for children (2 -17); kids two and under are free.

For non-residents, the season pass costs $50 for an adult and $30 for children.

Those interested in day passes, adults are $5 and children are $4.

The park is slated to close on August 28, but Nelson said that if he has the lifeguards, then the park will be open until Labor Day weekend.
