Winchester Hospital

Winchester Hospital opened its doors this week for the first time. Patients were treated for the first time at the hospital.

Suffrage

The Winchester Equal Suffrage League met this week. At the meeting, Alice Carpenter told the members that "the pulse of the people is beating strongly in favor of civic justice for women."

1962

Recount

John Horn who lost his election for Selectman to John Lymna, 2,538 to 2,698, has requested a recount.

Direct Access

After an investigation by Department of Public Works on the request of Selectman, Sherman "Whip" Saltmarsh, MBTA riders can gain access to the center rail station through the waiting room on the platform. The owner of the station agreed to keep the platforms free of snow and ice.

Light Industry

The Winchester Industrial Commission is trying to bring in some taxable light industry into the town. The only significant development, according to the board this year was an Industrial Park off of Cross Street.

1987

Car Crash

A Winchester High School junior was killed in a car crash. The students held a memorial service for him in the auditorium.

Fire

Winchester Firefighters had to put out a blaze on a 100-year-old home located on Cambridge Street. The upper part of the home was badly damaged.
