1912

Town Elections

After struggling to find enough candidates to fill the vacant Board of Selectmen seats two years ago, this year, the town has four candidates eligible for the vacant seats.

1962

Blood Drive

The Greater Boston Chapter of the Red Cross made an emergency appeal for blood to offset a "severe shortage" of blood.

UNICEF

Mrs. William Cusack, a former alternate delegate to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and honorary vice chairman of the Massachusetts Council for UNICEF developed an idea to raise money for UNICEF at Logan Airport.

She suggested installing a bright blue safe in the international lobby of the airlines overseas flights. Traveleres can then drop unwanted foreign coins into the safe to benefit UNICEF.

Intruder

While reading his newspaper, a Washington Street man saw an intruder walk up his stairs. The man raced down the stairs and out of the door. The Winchester resident chased the man down the street but couldn't follow him.

1987

Parks

The Winchester Board of Selectmen established a "chain of command" for the use of its parks.

Winchester schools and the Recreation Department have the first opportunity to use the parks. That's folowed by organized youth and adult programs.
