Fire

A Wedgemere home suffered $200,000 worth of damage due to a fire. The fire was caused by a heating coil used to wrap pipes to keep them from freezing.

The fire started because the coil was never unplugged, Fire Chief Robert McElhinney told the Star. The four-alarm blaze at 12 Wedgemere  sent six Winchester firefighters and one Arlington firefighter to the hospital. No one was home at the time of the fire.

State Tests

Winchester students in grades three, even and 11 had to take a uniform state test. Winchester students now needed to take two standardized tests that year, and residents were concerned that it was creating too much pressure.
