This Fourth of July was the hottest in the history of Boston as temperatures averaged over 100 degrees. Police made no arrests in Winchester, as residents went to to watch the fireworks.

It was also the hottest July 4 in Winchester's history with temperatures averaging 110 degrees. But the heatwave ended with a major thunderstorm.

Lightning also struck a flag pole in the Common, splitting it in half. A house was also struck, breaking its water main. And residents could see fires from as far away as Stoneham and Wakefield due to the storm.

Tainted Water Supply

Town officials were concerned about the purity of the reservoir water and protecting from people who "think it's a good place to swim."

The Board of Selectmen said that Winchester residents need to focus on conserving water.

Buckle up

Safety officer, Kevin Mawn, urged residents to buckle up for the holiday weekend. The town started a "Make-it-click" challenge for the summer.

Drug bust

A Stoneham man was arrested outside the and charged with trafficking and possession of heroin. The man faced a five to 20 year jail sentence. It was the first heroin arrest in Winchester in at least three years.
