Water Has ‘Vegetable Taste’

The town determined that Winchester’s drinking water was safe to drink – despite its “vegetable taste” or “taste of decaying vegetation.”

The taste came from the rain fall traveling through large quantities of dead leaves on its way to the reservoirs, according to the town.

Nuclear Attack Precautions

The Winchester School Committee set a policy that if a nuclear attack was immanent, the superintendent would close schools and school children would be sent home.

The Winchester High football team beat Woburn 22-13 in the Thanksgiving Day game to advance to face Peabody in the Division 1 Super Bowl.
