Town Meeting voted to allow people to fish in the reservoir. The black bass has been killing the smaller fish, which would then sink to the bottom of the water, decompose and taint the water.

The Water Department had been raking out all the dead fish, but have been unable to get them all. It was decided that fisherman should be allowed to catch the bass, so that they can't ruin the water.

More School

The voted to extend the school day by 10 minutes at the junior school and the high school. The day would run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. And the afternoon session at the elementary schools would be extended by 15 minutes (1 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.).

According to the committee, the day would be longer than neighboring towns, but the change was made because of the greater educational demands the schools are facing.

No more teen driving

Chief, Joseph Durro, urged parents to limit teenage driving, especially after dark because of all the car accidents that have been taking place across New England.

"Winchester young people are as good as any young people anywhere," Durro told the Star. "But let's not make the mistake of thinking our hands are completely clean in this matter. We have our full share of problems. "
