Disonctinued trains

Sunday trains have been discontinued to Arlington, and Winchester is believed to be next. Any trains that don't pay are being stopped. Residents are moving away from the steam trains and are using the electric ones more frequently.

Search Abandoned

Winchester stopped searching for a Winchester resident who they thought died in the Fells. Police found the man's hat, but it's now believed that he is still alive, but his whereabouts are unknown.

Bellino Book

"Navy's Joe Bellino", a 112-page book with over 100 photographs of the all-American football player and Winchester native was scheduled to be published soon.

The book was written by Winchester resident Cynthia Barone and assisted by her husband, Dr. William Barone. It will be published by their publishing firm -- Winchester Publishers.

1986

Focus on anti-drug effort

The School Committee wanted a renewed community emphasis on the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. According to the Star, the School board said that board members were "unaware" that drinking parties of high school students continue "at the same rate" as in the past.

Cookie failure

Needing a unanamous vote to convert a gas station at 562 Wahington Street to a cookie shop, one member of the Zoning Board of Appeals voted against the measgure, citing traffic concerns.

The owner of the cookie store, John D'Orsi of Stoneham said at the time, "We got railroaded."
