Week Ahead: Authors, Appraisals and Water Main Flushing

Here's a look ahead at what's happening this week in Winchester.

There are a number of events going on this week in Winchester. Take a look at some things you should know as the week begins:

AuthorFest: Winchester students get a chance to meet real-life authors in the annual AuthorFest. The event, which is sponsored by the (WFEE), will be held on Thursday, April 14 from 3-5 p.m. at Town Hall.

Flushing Notice: Beginning Wednesday, April 13, will be taking place during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for approximately three weeks. The will begin flushing with the East side for the first two weeks and the West side for the third week. During flushing, residents should refrain from using water for drinking, dishwashing, and laundry as some discoloration of water may occur. If you experience discolored water, let the cold water run until it clears.

WHS Skinner Appraisal Night: This program, sponsored by the , will present a night of antique appraisal.  “What’s It Worth?  Is there a Treasure in Your Attic?” will be presented by Skinner, Inc., one of the nation’s leading auction houses for antiques and fine art. The program promises to similar to the “Antiques Road Show” shown on PBS.  Individuals can bring one or two items for appraisal.  The first 50 items will be appraised. Admission is free, but appraisal will be $15 for one item and $25 for two items. 

Mortimer Trial: , is expected to be back in court Thursday, April 14 at 2 p.m. for a pretrial conference.

Chamber of Commerce Meeting: The will be holding its annual meeting on Wednesday, April 13, at 5:30 p.m. at the Anyone from the community can join with Chamber members to socialize and meet with the Board of Directors. The keynote speaker this year will be Josh Wall who was recently appointed by Governor Deval Patrick to be head of the Parole Board.

Mahoney’s Seminar: in-house expert, , will teach residents how to improve your soil quality, how to prune perennials, grasses, shrubs, which pesticides, fertilizers and mulches to put down, how to deal with winter damage and which winter debris to clean out and which is actually good for your garden.

Town Meetings: The will be having its first meeting since naming . The meeting, which will be held Monday night at 7 p.m., will have a public hearing on the Winchester Train Center renovation project. The will be meeting Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the
