According to Town Manager Richard Howard, the state recently announced that Chapter 70 funds would increase by $150 million statewide. And due to the town’s growing school enrollment, Winchester will see between $800 and $900K in state funds.

Earlier this year, the MBTA announced that while cutting services for buses and commuter rail.

According to the state's transportation website, those cuts could include elimination of commuter rail services after 10 p.m. during the week and completely on the weekend.

Finding fresh, locally grown produce in the winter can be a challenge, but looks to change that. Winter Market has been open for three weeks. Held in one of the garden center’s massive greenhouses, the winter market includes 25 vendors selling everything from parsnips to alpaca wool gloves.

Under a proposal by Gov. Deval Patrick,on cigarettes will increase and new sales taxes on candy and soda will be put into place. 

Patrick is proposing the increase as a way to raise $260 million in new revenues for the state budget, according to an Associated Press article on Wednesday.
