Weekend Planner: Author, A Capella and Some Japanese Drumming

Check out some events going on this weekend in Winchester.

Where/When: Thursday, March 31, 7 p.m.

Why Go: Local author Juliette Fay will be signing copies of her newest book, Deep Down True, recently released in paperback. It's a chance to meet Fay and have her sign a copy of the book.

Where/when: ; Saturday, April 2 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. 

Why go: The Octets present Spring A Cappella Fest.  It will be an evening of a cappella vocal performances featuring WHS student groups the Octets & Chamber Singers, joined by special guests Northeastern University Nor' Easters, Trinity Accidentals, UMass Amherst Dynamics, and Similar Jones. 

Pricing: $8 students/seniors; $15 audlts; $40 family.

Where/when: , Sunday, April 3 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Why go: The and host a screening of excerpts from the prize winning film, "Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick," followed by a panel discussion. There will be a panel discussion afterward that will be moderated by Dr. Richard Weiner. 

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: ; Sunday April 3, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Why Go: The Winchester Cultural Councilsponsors an afternoon of Taiko drumming presented by Odaiko New England, a Woburn-based Japanese drumming group. Odaiko blends traditional Taiko drumming with Cuban, Latino, and jazz influences, making an exuberant experience that is sure to delight and mesmerize the whole family.  

Pricing: Suggested donation $5/person, $10/family.

Where/When: , Friday, April 1 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Why go: Help support a neighboring community's popular theater with this champagne reception and silent auction. Tons of auction items are available, including an "ultimate Red Sox experience," a Cabaret dinner with Kathy St. George, a Hilton Head Vacation, a 7-night stay for four in a Tuscan Villa and more. The evening is emceed by radio personality Hank Morse.  

Pricing: $75 per person / $700 per table of 10 / $1,200 per "Bronze Sponsorship"
