Weekend Planner: Farmers Market, Book Signing and MLK Day

Why Go: Ellen Knight, Ph.D will sign copies of her new book, Winchester Hospital Our First Century at Book Ends. Knight is a specialist in the arts of the Boston area at the turn of the 20th century, as well as the history of Winchester, Massachusetts.

Where/when: Saturday, Dec. 31, 5 p.m.

Why go: Beginning Jan. 14 and running to March 17, Mahoney’s will be hosting an indoor farmers market at its Winchester location. The event, similar to the , will run every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m

Where/When: ; Monday, Jan. 16, 3 p.m.

Why Go: The Winchester Multicultural Network and the Family Action Network (FAN) invite all members of the  community to join in a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday on Monday, Jan. 16. The event will feature a musical performance by Guy Mendilow, whose band was voted Boston's Best World Music Act in the Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll 2011. Also enjoy a display of art and writing by Winchester schoolchildren, a book fair, craft activities and refreshments. Doors open at 3 p.m. Concert begins at 4 p.m.

Where/when: Barnes and Noble, Burlington;Sunday, Jan. 15, 2 p.m.

Why go: Show your support for The Wilmington High School Strings Group bookfair. Join them Sunday for their students' musical performance.

Where/when: North Suburban YMCA, 137 Lexington Street, Woburn, Monday, Jan. 16, 8 a.m.

Why go: Write letters to American troops with Americorps volunteers.
