Weekend Planner: Flea Market, Awards Banquet and a Bottle Drive

Here are some suggestions of what to do this weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. Every Thursday we’ll be giving you a few suggestions of things to do this weekend. And be sure to let us know of any other events in the area that you might be attending.

Where/When: ; Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Why Go: The annual will be held this Saturday in the Town Hall parking lot. Antiques, collectibles, crafts and treasures from the attic will be featured.

Where/when: , Saturday, Oct. 1, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why go: The ABC Bottle Drive is a fund-raising event that is conducted twice a year by Winchester's A Better Chance program. Prospective scholars apply to National ABC, and are referred to Winchester ABC’s selection committee. That committee chooses candidates. Each scholar attends Winchester High School for four years. The scholars live in a house with the other scholars in the program, the Resident Directors, and Resident Academic Coordinator. A group of Winchester ABC volunteers work together to create a home-like environment that enriches and supports each scholar.

Where/When: The Sheepfold at the Fells; Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: Join the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Greater Boston Chapter of NEMBA in celebrating the 2011 International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day at the Middlesex Fells. The rides will be lead by NEMBA Ride Guides and the NEMBA Mountain Bike Patrol will be staffing and riding along as well. The rides are recommended for ages 8 and up and children will need to be able to ride without training wheels. Parents are welcome to ride along. Helmets required!. There will have a limited number of loaner helmets and bikes available - please contact adam@gbnemba.org if you would like to reserve use of them.

Why go: Winchester native Matt Tavares is back to Book Ends to sign and speak about his newest book, Over the River and Through the Woods: The New England Boy's Song About Thanksgiving.

Where/when: Exchange Conference Center on the Boston Pier, 212 North Ave, Boston, MA, Saturday, Oct. 1, 7 p.m.

Why go: The will be hosting its . The museum created the awards in 2006 to recognize individuals who have made critical contributions to the promotion of photography, resulting in a greater awareness of the photographic arts among the general public. The awards presentation is followed by wine and hors d'oeuvres from Best of Boston caterer East Meets West. The Master of Ceremony will be photographer Lou Jones.
