Weekend Planner: Spelling Bee, Pumpkin Fair and a Fall Fest

Check out some suggestions of what to do this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. Every Thursday we’ll be giving you a few suggestions of things to do this weekend. And be sure to let us know of any other events in the area that you might be attending.

Where/When: ; Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8, 8 p.m.

Why Go: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is acomedy of adult overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

Where/when: , Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.

Why go: There will be a trail run through the Fells Reservation in Stoneham. The participants will be running the Reservoir trail and will be meeting at the Upper Sheepfold Parking lot. This is open to the public so invite your friends, however, it's suggested that you register at their facebook page, here, ahead of time so they know how many people to expect.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: ; Saturday, Oct. 8, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go: The fair will feature a variety of games for children, face painting, pumpkin crafts, balloons,and refreshments.  The Pumpkin Patch will be open for business selling pumpkins of all sizes, gourds and seasonal decorations.  The patch is open from now through Halloween Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.  Proceeds from the fair and patch will benefit the Native Americans who grew the pumpkins, the Woburn Council of Social Concern, the McCall Middle School, and the missions of the Second Congregational Church. 

Pricing: $1 - $2 per game

Where/when: ; Saturday, Oct. 8, Sunday, Oct. 9, Monday, Oct 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: Be sure to check out Mahoney's Fall Fest. There will be face painting, pumpkin painting, fall produce and more.

Where/when: , Saturday, Oct. 8, 9:30 a.m.

Why go: The Farmers Market is winding down. If you haven't made the trip, you better do so now. There will be a cooking demo, some music and of course fresh produce.
