Weekend Planner: Swinging Sisters, Farmers Market and Fireworks

Here are some suggestions of what to do this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Patch is coming to the rescue. Every Thursday we’ll be giving you a few suggestions of things to do this weekend. And be sure to let us know of any other events in the area that you might be attending.

Where/When: Thursdays (7:30 p.m.), Fridays (8 p.m.), Saturdays (4 p.m. and 8 p.m.) and Sundays (2 p.m.)

Why Go: The best-selling musical in Stoneham Theatre history is back.  Sisters of Swing tells the  story of The Andrews Sisters - LaVerne, Maxene, and Patty.

Pricing: $44-$48 regular admission; senior discounts apply; all student tickets $20. Wednesday matinee is $30.

Where/When: Friday, July 1, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: Over 25 artists will , photographs, mosaics and sculptures of the throughout the month of July at the Beebe Estate Gallery in Melrose. The artists come from towns surrounding the Fells. Opening reception is Friday, July 1 from 7 – 9 p.m. The gallery will be open Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Pricing: Free.

Where/when: , Saturday, July 2, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Why go: The Winchester Farmers Market will take place on the Common again this Saturday. There will be music at 9:30 a.m. from Liz Buchanan and Gordon MacFarland and at noon, Laura Gordon will perform. Artist Denise Konicek will display her quilts and textile art.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Saturday;  July 2, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Why go: Acoustic guitarist and songwriter Jim Scott, will perform in the Parish Hall of The First Church in Belmont. The concert is a fundraiser for the preservation of the silver maple forest at the Belmont Uplands, and is sponsored by the Social Action Committee of The First Church in Belmont, the Coalition to Preserve the Belmont Uplands, and Friends of Alewife Reservation.  

Pricing: $12 in advance; $15 at the door.

Where/When: Saturday, July 2, 9 p.m.

Why Go: It's July 4th weekend, and what better way to celebrate than fireworks.

Pricing: Free.
