Weekend Planner: Train Show, Orchid Festival and Animal Exhibit

Take a look at some suggestions of what to do this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Where/When: , Saturday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Why Go: Because people love model trains. The intricate designs, the constant movement of the engines, not only do parents enjoy the simplicity of model trains, but children are usually left in awe of a model train set.

Pricing: The museum is free, but it’s $7/family to enter the model train exhibit.

Where/When: at 1020 Main St., Friday, Feb. 19, 8 p.m. to midnight

Why Go: This local band will be performing rock music in the St. Anthony Club. It might not be U2 or Bruce Springstein or Aerosmith, but when is the last time you went to a concert? And plus, this is the debut performance of the Full Turn Band.

Pricing: $5.

Where/When: Stone Zoo, Saturday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why Go: It has been a long winter (which is still not over) and if you’re a regular patron of the Stone Zoo, it’s at least been a few months since you last visited thanks to the snow. And if you haven’t been in a while, this weekend would be a good time to check out the new “Animal Encounters” hands-on exhibit and create animal-inspired arts and crafts projects.  

Pricing: Adults, $14; Seniors (over 62), $11; Children (2-12), $8; Children under two and members, free.

Where/When: , Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Why Go: It’s Sunday, and what better way to celebrate the last day of the weekend than with a Bloody Mary? Plus, you can build your own Bloody Mary with Sea Dog's homemade mixes and fixings, which include shrimp, cheeses, meats, vegetables, spices, herbs and more.

Pricing: $20/couple.

Where/When: , Feb. 12 to Feb. 27 

Why Go: It’s cold, there’s been a lot of snow, this is a good chance to remind yourself that spring’s right around the corner. And with the growing popularity of orchids, you can see if an orchid is right for your house.

Pricing: Free entry.
