Winchester Resident Hosts Women Working for Oceans Panel Discussion

Ellen Curren of Winchester grew up watching the ships navigate Port of Providence from her back yard in Cranston, RI, and sailing on Narragansett Bay. For several years she lived on the coast of The Bass Strait in Australia and was inspired by that nation’s commitment to ocean stewardship. She is concerned about the global impact of pollution, overfishing, and especially climate change on our ocean's health.

Curren is on the board of W2O (Women Working for Oceans), a local organization whose mission is to promote healthy and sustainable oceans by planning informative events, particularly for women, so they discover what more can be done to prevent global climate change very close to home. 

W2O will host “Roadside Assistance: Driving Change on Our Streets and in the Oceans,” a lively panel discussion at the New England Aquarium’s Simons IMAX Theatre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Panelists include Ray Magliozzi of National Public Radio’s “Car Talk” show and one half of the brotherly Click and Clack duo; Herb Chambers, President of Herb Chambers Motor Group, Eric Evarts, Consumer Reports’ Senior Associate Autos Editor, and Scott Griffith, Chairman and CEO of Zipcar. Lisa Hughes, Emmy Award-winning journalist and news anchor of WBZ-TV, will lead the panel discussion. Bud Ris, the Aquarium’s President and CEO, will speak about the impact of climate change based on his extensive international and local leadership.

Tickets are $50 and include a vegetarian boxed lunch.
