Winchester's Summer Food Drive

Winchester is trying to gather food for the Council of Social Concern.

Winchester is sponsoring a Summer Food Drive to benefit the The Summer Food Drive will culminate at the on the  Saturday, August 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. 

The CSC serves Winchester and Woburn. The summer food drive is important as the "Food Pantry" tends to run dry in the summer. CSC’s Food Pantry provides emergency and supplemental food assistance for Winchester and Woburn residents who are going through hard times. Summer poses a special challenge for many of the families served by the Food Pantry. 

Winchester Summer Food Drive sponsors include: Temple Shir Tikvah, Parish of the Epiphany Episcopal Church, St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church, Second Congregational Church, First Baptist Church, Winchester Unitarian Society, Hope Christian Church, St. Mary’s Parish Family, First Congregational Church, and Winchester Rotary.

According to Mike Regentz and Pam Reeve, the organizers of this year's food drive, "This summer, you can make a difference by donating non-perishable food or a cash donation, because for every $1 you donate, we can provide food for more than two meals. The face of hunger is the face of many families, individuals, elderly and children in our community. By supporting the CSC Food Pantry, you are directly helping to alleviate local hunger in Winchester." 

Cash Donations -- Donations may be sent or taken checks to any listed organization – checks should be made payable to the Council of Social Concern – mark the memo field with Food Pantry Donation.

Food Donations -- Before August 6, 2011, food donations of non-perishable food can be given to any listed organization’s collection point. On August 6, 2011 food donation should be brought to the Winchester Common between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and given to the Summer Food Drive tent crew.

CSC Food Pantry Wish List:

CSC accepts all non-perishable food within date. Listed below are some suggested foods: 

  • Baked Beans
  • Canned Fruit & Vegetables
  • Canned Lunch (Spaghettios, etc.)
  • Canned Meat (Tuna, stew, Spam, chili)
  • Cereal (hot and cold)
  • Condiments
  • Dessert Mixes, Jello, Pudding
  • Instant Mashed Potatoes
  • Jelly
  • Bottled Juice
  • Boxed or Bagged Pasta 
  • Peanut Butter
  • Powdered Milk
  • Rice/Rice Mixes
  • Soup
  • Snacks (cookies, crackers, etc.)
  • Spaghetti Sauce
  • Sugar-free, Low-sodium & Fat-free Foods
