Wind Advisory in Effect for Winchester
Residents can expect to get gusts of up to 50 mph throughout the day and into Saturday night.
A wind advisory will go into effect at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, due to National Weather Service predictions of high wind gusts for today and into Sunday.
The NWS is expecting winds to reach 25 to 35 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour.
According to the NWS, strong winds will arrive shortly after sunrise and continue into Saturday night.

The wind advisory is in effect for all of Massachusetts, as well as Connecticut, Rhode Island and parts of New Hampshire between 8 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday.
Wind advisories are issued by the NWS when sustained winds are expected to be between 31 and 39 miles per hour or gusts will be between 46 and 57 miles per hour.

Winds this strong can cause isolated power outages, downed tree limbs and branches and difficult driving.
In case your power goes out (tips from NStar):
- To report an outage call NStar at 800-592-2000.
- Stay clear of all fallen tree limbs and electrical wires as well as anything they are touching - such as puddles and metal fences. Assume all downed wires are “live” and stay away. Call NSTAR and local emergency personnel.
- Disconnect appliances that will go on automatically when the power is restored. These include refrigerators, stoves, furnaces and water heaters.
- Turn off appliances such as washers, dryers, computers and TV's. Once power is restored, turn appliances back on one at a time to avoid a power surge.
- Food in your refrigerator will keep for six to nine hours, and food in your freezer will keep between 36 and 48 hours.
