Of Truth and Drugs

How would you solve the communities drug problems?

The other day I said hello to someone I hadn’t seen in a
while and commented that “he looked good”
thinking to myself he looked tan, so perhaps he just came back from a
vacation, to which he responded “I’m taking care of myself, I lost weight and
it’s all about diet and exercise.” He then took a bite of his apple and ended
with, “so no chocolate,” with a tone directed at me like he was a recovering
addicted and I was looking to push my chocolate drug on him. Automatically I
gave my typical response, “all in moderation, but dark chocolate is healthy and
has less sugar and even less carbohydrates.” He laughed and walked away.
Ironically, this was not someone I typically saw in the store, but rather out
and about, so I don’t know if he has any addiction problems let alone a
chocolate addiction. However, I do know our country has an addiction problem which is affecting our local communities, but why? What is lacking in people’s lives that they need to fill it with drugs? I believe in moderation when it comes to
food, but I can’t say that other than alcohol would I apply that same motto to
other substances. In church last week the sermon was about being true and how
it affects our lives. People use drugs because they don’t know how to be true to
themselves. What should we do as a community to treat the drug problems honestly?
