Reading Symphony Orchestra Spring Concert

Reading Symphony Orchestra to present its Spring Concert in Wilmington

The Reading Symphony Orchestra is taking the show on the road for its Spring Concert on Sunday, March 23, 2014. The RSO will be performing at Barrows Auditorium at Wilmington High School (159 Church St., Wilmington) for its second concert of this year's season. The concert will begin at 3:30 and tickets are available at the door.

The theme of this season's concert programs might be called "Vintage Classics", as we will present some of the greatest and most well-loved masterworks ever written for orchestra.

The orchestra will open the program with the ebullient overture to Handel's opera “Acis and Galatea”, considered to be one of the finest examples of English pastoral opera.  Second on the program will be Mozart's gracefully eloquent Symphony #36, known as the "Linz", one among that remarkable series of works that represents Mozart's last word on orchestral music.

After the intermission, the orchestra will present Rimsky-Korsakov's most famous work, “Scheherazade”, a brilliantly orchestrated symphonic evocation of 4 fantastic tales drawn from The Thousand and One Nights. In Rimsky's vivid re-telling of these classic stories, the enchanting voice of Scheherazade is depicted through the graceful arabesques of the solo violin. This work is a tour de force for orchestras and we are very excited to be presenting this to our audiences for the first time.
