Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute is taking an active approach to preventing the spread of influenza, a serious respiratory disease that kills an average of 36,000 people and hospitalizes an additional 200,000 in the U.S. each year.

An influenza vaccination clinic will be offered for adults 19 and older on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Baldwin Park I, 12 Alfred St., Suite 207 in Woburn.

 

The influenza vaccination is recommended to prevent influenza disease and its complications, including pneumonia and even death. Those who contract influenza can spread the virus for 24 to 48 hours before symptoms appear, so it is critical that adults get immunized early in the influenza season. Because the strains of the virus that cause influenza change, a different influenza vaccine is recommended each year.

 

The cost of the influenza vaccination clinic is $22 per person, payable by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. For more information, call the Community Health Institute at (781) 756-4700.
