Solarize Now

Thursday (9/8) will be a celebration of Solar energy in Winchester.

Alteris Renewables and the Solarize Mass team will have a Solar House at Winchester High.  There will be programs for the public at 2:20, 2:45 and from 7:00 p.m. onwards. 

Solarize Now will take place in the High School starting at 7:30. In the auditorium there will be a short presentation plus stations for getting all your solar questions answered.

To find out if your roof might be a good candidate for solar, bring your power bill and come to Solarize Now.  You can look at a satellite image of your residence along with Alteris experts who will assess your roof on the spot.

Already had your home assessed for solar and still have questions?  Experts will be on hand to  provide answers.

The Solarize Mass pilot running in Winchester has had great results so far with 385 homeowners expressing interest in investigating solar photo-voltaic panels for their home.  65 site assessments have been scheduled.  17 residents have signed contracts to install solar panels through the program, adding up to 79 kW.   The program is designed to inform residents about solar pv and streamline the process for installing solar on domestic and small business roof tops.

The Solarize Mass program is organized with a volume incentive.  For each 100kW of panels installed, the price for everyone drops.  So Winchester is 21 kW away from lowering the price for every participant.

MassCEC is offering an incentive to homeowners who have or are considering signing a contract to install solar PV systems. Homeowners who have signed a contract by the end of the town event will have their name entered into a raffle for an additional $500 towards their total rebate amount.

Winchester is one of four towns in the Commonwealth selected to trial the Solarize Mass pilot.  To date, Winchester’s results are very strong with 73 kW contracted.  The other towns are: Hatfield with 51 kW, Harvard with 39 kW and Scituate with 9 kW.
