Italian Strike Still In Progress 

“The strike among the laborers employed about town which commenced last week is still going on, with little prospect of settlement.” No formal demands where made for more wages or shorter hours but the entire controversy seems to be established at a rate of $2 a day for nine hours as the lowest wage to be paid. The contractors appear willing to pay $2 a day or more, provided the men are worth it, but refuse to pay the poor workmen the same wage paid their better men.

Her 82nd Birthday

On Thursday, Mrs. Charles D. Folsom quietly celebrated her 82nd birthday in her home on Main Street. She was in considerably good health after recovering from a injuries sustained from falling of an electric car several years ago. Mrs. Folsom was born in 1830 on Friend Street in Boston.

Oral Polio Clinics Proving Successful

Children in the Kindergarten and first grades received the vaccine in the classrooms in the morning, while pre-school children received them in the afternoon in the respective auditoriums at  the Noonan, Washington, Parkhurst and Vincent Owens Schools.

Mystic Glee Club Anniversary Club

Winchester’s Mystic Glee Club celebrated the 22nd anniversary of its founding when it presented its spring concert.

 

1987

Old Radio Comes Back

A recreation of old time radio shows will take place at the Winchester Library . Listeners will listen in the fashion of a studio audience as Falshback, a new vocal quartet brings to life 1940’s era jingles, advertisements and radio broadcast.

Eagle Scouts Induct Three 

Troop 507 regonized three young men who attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Scott Racek, Mathew Mallio and John Gosselin.
