1912

The Visiting Nurses of Winchester made 3,669 visits this year, representing 740 individuals. One-third of these visits were free of charge. While the question of building a hospital was still being mulled over, the Visiting Nurses of Winchester continued to provide care for patients in town. Mrs. Joshua Colt, the retiring president of the Visiting Nurses Association was presented with a Silver Service award.

An ad for Wilson’s Freckle Cream promised to remove girls’ freckles or your money back. “Just because you have freckles doesn’t mean you should always have them.”

1962

A two-alarm fire in a three family apartment on 253 Swanton St. was under investigation from the Fire Marshall’s Office. No fatalities, but the cause of fire is unknown. 

1987

Rep. Sherman “Whip” Saltmarsh represents Winchester, the town he has lived in all of his life. In the feature piece on the front page, his fondness for Winchester is profiled as he walks through downtown, shaking hands with the folks he knows and talks about projects he had been involved with in the past.
