What’s Open on Christmas Eve and Christmas in Winchester?

Town government buildings such as Town Hall and the Winchester Public Library and their services will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This includes all schools and the post office.

Christmas Eve (Tuesday, Dec. 24):

  • Retail stores: Most open, some with varied hours.
  • Supermarkets, liquor stores and convenience stores: Most open.
  • Bars and restaurants: Most open.
  • Stock market: Closes at 1 p.m.
  • Municipal offices: Closed.
  • Banks: Some open, most close early.
  • Library: Closed.
  • Schools: Closed.
  • Post office: Open, although many will close at noon. Regular mail delivery will take place, last mailbox collections will be at noon.
  • MBTA: Operating on a modified schedule.

Christmas (Wednesday, Dec. 25):

  • MBTA: Operating on a modified schedule.

The MBTA commuter rail schedule will be operating on a Sunday schedule with the first train into the city at 7 a.m. and the last train leaving the city at 11:30 p.m. with trains leaving in one hour intervals in-between. After 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve, all fares are free of charge.
