Weekend Planner: Hike the Fells and Activities for Kids

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Why Go: Because even if you're all , the Lexington High School Choral Group's annual bookfair comes with the promise that the students entertain you with their musical performance that any age will enjoy.

Where/when: 68 S. Border Road, Saturday, Jan. 7, 10 a.m. to noon

Why go: Join Dan Sumorok on a hiking tour of the southernmost part of the Fells on the Skyline, Reservoir, and Cross Fells trails. This walk will end with a visit to Pine Hill and Wright’s Tower, where the view includes Medford, Boston, and the Blue Hills in the distance. The trails are steep and rocky in places. Wear sturdy boots and bring at least a liter of water. Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking area, South Border Rd., Medford. Rain cancels.

Where/When: 400 Presidential Way, Woburn; Saturday, Jan. 7, noon

Why Go: A free family event promoting health and physical activity. Bring your children to try out sports, swimming, obstacle courses and birthday party games. There will be prizes and discounts.

Where/when: 52 Lowell St, Lexington; 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 8

Why go: Where else are you going to visit friendly neighborhood Nigerian Dwarf goats on this wintery Sunday afternoon?

Pricing: Suggested donation of $2 or $5 per family.

Where/when:  , 7 Medford St., Arlington, Saturday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m.

Why go: Fill the morning with fun and surprising tricks from magic and comedy, to origami and balloon sculptures by New England's own child performer, Bonaparté.

Pricing: Adults $10, children and seniors $8, Regent members $7.
