Weekend Planner: Window Painting, Walkathon and ABC's

Check out some suggestions of what to do this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Why Go: The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is acomedy of adult overachievers' angst chronicling the experience of six adolescent outsiders vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime.

Where/when: Town Center, Saturday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m.

Why go: Winchester residents beginning at 9 a.m. This event permits the participants to decorate the outside of designated windows of local businesses using specialized paint. This year, you can paint a window by yourself or grab your friend or parent and paint one window together. All windows must have a Halloween theme. For further information, please contact the Recreation Dept. at 781-721-7125.

Where/When: ; Saturday, Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Sons of Italy Hall in Winchester there will be the 2011 ABC Fall Event. This year's theme is an 80's Rock Party. The event will feature silent and live auctions, a DJ, Blue Ribbon BBQ, dessert bar and complimentary beer and wine for a portion of the evening.  Tickets are limited and can be purchased at Bookends, An Elegant Affair or online at www.winchesterabc.org. The event will benefit Winchester's chapter of A Better Chance.

Where/when: ; Sunday, Oct. 23, 1 p.m.

Why go: This Sunday is the 3rd Annual El Hogar Walkathon (and Bikeathon- new this year). This 5K Walkathon/ 30K Bikeathon raises funds to support the El Hogar Projects, home to 250 abandoned, orphaned, and poor children in Honduras. El Hogar rescues children from a life of extreme poverty and desperation on the streets of Honduras and enables them to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment by providing them with a home, a nurturing environment, education and a marketable trade. Where/when:, Saturday, Oct. 22, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Why go: The Winchester Public Schools invites the public to a rummage sale of surplus school furniture to be held at the Vinson Owen School on Saturday. There are over 100 items available for sale including; chairs, desks, file cabinets, shelve units, and tables. These items are all used, and range from good to fair condition. There will be no early admission. All property is offered for sale "As Is, Where Is" to the first to meet minimum price. The buyer is responsible for removal at the time of sale. Winchester Public Schools makes no warranty, guarantee expressed or implied on the property for sale. All sales are final with no refunds.
