The following was submitted by Winchester Hospital.

In celebration of centennial, Winchester Hospital Our First Century by Ellen Knight, Ph.D., has recently been published. The book chronicles the many triumphs and challenges throughout the hospital’s first 100 years, and the story is told using numerous photos.

“Dr. Knight did a masterful job of walking the reader through the hospital’s history and weaving in many interesting and often humorous bits of information,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of Winchester Hospital. “It is a nice read for anyone connected to the hospital or the community and can be enjoyed by people of all ages.”

For the work of gathering source materials for the history, Knight credits many including hospital staff, the Winton Club, En Ka Society, and the Winchester Archival Center. “The story of the hospital is very much a story of the Winchester community, which has supported the hospital in many ways.  The book was also a collaborative effort, with help provided by hospital staff and by local organizations and individuals. I couldn’t have done it without them,” said Knight.

The book was recently unveiled at the hospital and is now available for purchase at the hospital’s Winton Club Gift Shop and at Book Ends in Winchester. The public is invited to attend at book signing at Book Ends on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. The cost of the book is $50 for hard cover and $25 for soft cover, all proceeds benefit Winchester Hospital.
