Arlington Man Threatens Winchester Residents

Ioannis Hronas stuck a knife into a door jam of two Winchester homes.

Early Friday morning, Ioannis Hronas of Arlington was arrested for illegal trespassing on private property.

The Arlington resident, who has three active warrants for threats to commit a crime and intimidation of a witness, was spotted along Johnson Road where he took a switchblade knife and stuck it into the door jam of two homes. He also left his business card on the properties.

According to Lieutenant Peter MacDonnell, one of the victims said that approximately 18 months ago, Hronas approached him about delivering a letter to Hronas’ brother-in-law. At the time, the victim said that he did not want to get involved in other people’s family matters.

“He seems disturbed,” MacDonnell said of Hronas. “We’re going to be aware when he’s released from prison.”

MacDonnell said that Hronas parked in the victim’s driveway playing very loud music. Hronas then got out of his car and began to dance to the music.

The other home that received Hronas’ knife and business card said that they did not know him and that he could have been looking for his brother-in-law.

By Friday afternoon, Hronas was in court, but according to Assistant District Attorney, Amanda Rowen, he became irrational during the proceedings. Hronas threatened his lawyer, the court and threatened to kill people, if he had to.

Rowen said that during the proceedings Hronas kept saying that the home along Johnson Road was his and that he was the victim.

The judge levied a $10,000 cash bail on Hronas and ordered him to serve 60 days in jail for his outburst.

Hronas is due back in court on May 24 to resolve the charges of trespassing. He then can serve a 30-day jail sentence, which is the maximum penalty for this offense.

The victims told police they were concerned about this and requested extra patrols in their neighborhood. MacDonnell said that the police would do what they can to monitor the situation.

“It’s definitely a concern,” MacDonnell said of Hronas’ eventual release. “ We’ll have extra patrols in the area and I had [Detective] Paul DeLuca speak with the jail, so we’ll be notified of his release.”
