Afternoon House Fire Put Down by Firefighters in Minutes

No official cause on Henry Street fire, but officials say it could be ruled electrical.

A house at 49 Henry St. caught fire just after 2 p.m. on Thursday causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Captain David Dalton said at the moment, it would be ruled an electrical fire. “We think it had to do with a laptop, either a battery overheating or something like that,” Dalton said. “From there, it ignited a sofa and some carpeting in the back end of the family room.” Firefighters were able to put the fire down within five to 10 minutes.

A neighbor claimed to have heard an explosion with flames jutting out of the corner facing their house. “The neighbor may have heard the glass shatter from a window, but there is no evidence of an explosion,” Dalton said. No one was injured and most of the damages were caused by heat and smoke.
