Fraud and Vehicle Break-Ins in Police Logs for Sept. 3 to Sept. 5

The following information was supplied by the Winchester Police Department.

6:30 p.m., September 3: Officers were dispatched to 29 Wildwood Street for a possible fraud. The victim gave their personal checking account number to an unknown caller who claimed to be calling from Medicare Insurance. The caller asked repeatedly for her checking number. The victim finally gave their information to the caller, but decided that something was not right. The victim checked their bank account and saw that there were no changes in the account. The victim was told to contact their bank immediately.

7:28 p.m., September 3: Officers responded to a report of a stolen heavy-duty street hockey net at 22 Everett Avenue. The net was easily visible from the street in the driveway. The net was 10 years old and cost about $200. This investigation is ongoing. 

9:05 a.m., September 5: Officers responded to a report of a larceny on Stratford Road. On arrival, the victim told police that at some point last night between 7:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. that morning, someone entered both vehicles in the driveway and took a laptop worth $1,500, a GPS worth $100, and a large brown purse. The victim told police that the cars were unlocked at the time of the break ins.
