Holiday Season Sees an Increase in Winchester Home Break-Ins

Five homes have been broken into in the last week.

As the holiday season draws to a close, are seeing an increase in the number of

"In previous years we've experienced an up-tick in property crimes during the holidays," said Winchester Lt. Peter MacDonnell. "So, it is expected."

Over the past week, five Winchester homes were broken into. Homes along Ridge Street, South Border Road, Hutchinson Road, Water Street and Highland Avenue have all been entered illegally.

A house alarm prevented anything from being stolen at the South Border home, but the other residents were not as fortunate. Gold rings, earings, jewlery and cash have been the primary items taken from the homes.

MacDonell said that the best defense for residents in order to protect their homes is to look out for one another and report anything out of the ordinary.

"People just need to be vigilant," MacDonnell said. "They just need to keep an eye out and look for any suspicious behavior."
