Mortimer Conference Postponed Again

Thomas Mortimer IV had his status conference pushed back to Sept. 8 because of a scheduling conflict.

Once again, Thomas Mortimer IV had his time in court postponed. Wednesday morning Mortimer was due at Woburn District Court for a 9 a.m. status conference.

Due to a scheduling conflict the conference will be moved to Sep. 8 at 9 a.m.

A status conference is designed to figure out what the status of the case is and to see if both sides are ready to go to trial. If a judge determines they are, then a trial date may be set.

Mortimer hasn't been in court since June 22 where he pleaded not guilty in Woburn District Court. Mortimer is being held without bail.

Last week Mortimer has his probable cause hearing postponed due to another scheduling conflict. That's when the court decided to move ahead with the status conference and schedule that for Wednesday, August 18. A new date for the probable cause hearing has not been set.

The father faces four charges of first-degree murder in connection with the quadruple homicide in his family's Winchester home. He is accused of murdering his wife, 41-year-old Laura Stone Mortimer, her two children, 2-year-old Charlotte Mortimer and 4-year-old Thomas Mortimer V, and Laura's mother, 64-year-old Ragna Ellen Stone.

Mortimer's defense attorney, Denise Regan, suggested a psychiatric evaluation be done.

On Wednesday, June 16, police entered Mortimer's home after a relative informed police that she had not heard from the family in two days. That's when police discovered the bodies.

"After having been in that scene I can tell you, after making observations of that scene, it was horrific, disturbing and unspeakable," Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone said at the time in a news conference.
