Mortimer Hearing Postponed

Thomas Mortimer IV will have to wait a week until his next court date.

Thomas Mortimer IV, 43, had his probable cause hearing postponed due to a scheduling conflict. Mortimer will next be in court on Wednesday, August 18 at 9 a.m. for a status conference.

That hearing is designed to figure out what the status of the case is and and to see if both sides are ready to go to trial. If a judge determines they are, then a trial date may be set.

A date for another probale cause hearing has not been set.

Mortimer hasn't been in court since June 22 where he pleaded not guilty in Woburn District Court. Mortimer is being held without bail.

The father faces four charges of first-degree murder in connection with the quadruple homicide in his family's Winchteser home. He is accused of murdering his wife, 41-year-old Laura Stone Mortimer, her two children, 2-year-old Charlotte Mortimer and 4-year-old Thomas Mortimer V, and Laura's mother, 64-year-old Ragna Ellen Stone.

Mortimer's defense attorney, Denise Regan, suggested a psychiatric evaluation be done.

On Wednesday, June 16, police entered Mortimer's home after a realtive informed police that she had not heard from the family in two days.That's when police discovered the bodies.

"After having been in that scene I can tell you, after making observations of that scene, it was horrific, disturbing and unspeakable," Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone said at the time in a news conference.
