Citizens Bank Robbed in Arlington Heights  

Arlington Police are asking for the public’s help in solving Thursday’s bank robbery at the Citizens Bank in the Heights.

The suspect, who is described as a 5-foot-6 white male, entered the bank and proceeded to the teller window, where he jumped onto the counter and demanded cash, according to police. He did not show a weapon, but whether he had one was still under investigation Thursday afternoon.

After the suspect received the cash, he fled on foot. While outside the bank, dye packs, which were on timers, exploded, tainting the cash. The suspect left behind several thousand dollars near the bank, police said.

Stoneham BOH: West Nile Spraying 'Not A Viable Option' For Town

After the town recently learned that a Stoneham man had been diagnosed with West Nile Virus, the Board of Health has decided to forego the spraying option, according to Stoneham Health Agent John Fralick.

"At this time, the Board of Health has not considered spraying to be a viable option where it is so late in the warm season (2-3 weeks) and mosquito activity is gradually slowing down," Fralick said.

On Sept. 20, a 63-year-old Stoneham man was confirmed to have West Nile Virus; however, "the man has reportedly recovered fully," Fralick said. A reverse 911 call was initiated on Sept. 25 to notify the public about the human case of West Nile Virus in Stoneham, he said.

Main Street Revitalization Work Starts Oct. 5

With improvements made to various sections of town in recent years, the city is aiming to revitalize the downtown Main Street area starting Oct. 5, according to city employees.

During a recent press conference at City Hall, Mayor Rob Dolan said the city has made improvements to areas includng Cedar Park, Melrose Highlands and West Wyoming Avenue; however, the downtown area is targeted for renovations in the near future.

"...We are going to focus on our downtown Main Street district, with a renovation project that will make the street more attractive, more pedestrian-friendly, and more handicap accessible (which means easier for people with strollers to navigate as well)," Dolan wrote on his blog. "The project will begin on Friday, Oct. 5, and (weather permitting) will run on a very aggressive schedule; by doing the most disruptive work at night and less intensive work during the day, we hope to complete the project in (10) days."
