Police: Driver Just Missed Pedestrians on Mount Vernon Street

The following information was supplied by the Winchester Police Departments

Jan. 7

 

10:10 a.m.: A vehicle traveling through the intersection of Oneida Road and Westland Avenue was struck by a car traveling on Westland Avenue.

3:07 p.m.: Officers responded to a report of a traffic violation, which took place at about 5:15 p.m. the night previous. Two people were leaving Town Hall and crossed the street to the Mt. Vernon parking lot. They got halfway through the street when they saw a black Mercedes heading in their direction at a high rate of speed. One of the pedestrians said, “I don’t think he’s going to stop.” On of the pedestrians fell over, but was not struck by the car. The pedestrians were not in the crosswalk and exchanged curses and shouting with the driver, who then drove off. Officers made contact with the driver and told him to be more careful.

3:46 p.m.: Officers spoke to a person reporting a scam on South Border Road. The caller told police that they received a call from someone claiming there was a federal complaint against them. The caller said that if he did not return the call with in an hour, a local police officer would arrive at his home or place of work with an arrest warrant. The man reported that the caller had a very thick accent and that it was hard to understand the caller.

 

Jan. 8 

3:23 p.m.: Officers pulled over a Chevy Blazer with an expired registration sticker on Mystic Valley Parkway and Lincoln Street. The car was towed and the driver was issued a citation.
