Police Log: A Break-in, a Fight and More Phone Scams

The following information was supplied by the Winchester Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, July 22, 7:31 a.m. – A perpetrator tried to break into the Winchester Boat Club by breaking a window near the snack bar area. The suspect cut himself trying to break the glass and left a trail of blood at the boat club.

Winchester Police do not believe the suspect was able to access the boat club.

3:24 p.m. – Family of an Arlington Street resident told Winchester Police that their mother has been a victim of a phone scam. The woman has been receiving calls from a man since February saying that she won a million dollars and in order to receive the money, she needs to cover taxes and fees.

Over the past few months the woman has given the man $10,000.

9:52 p.m. – Winchester Police responded to Salem Street to break up a fight. A Salem Street resident told police that her daughter was on the front lawn when a car drove up and one of the passengers began yelling at her daughter.

The woman said that her daughter and the passengers in the car used to be friends. The woman told police that at one point the argument became physical and that’s when she called police. The officer informed the woman that they could make a complaint at Woburn District Court.

Saturday, July 23, 11:44 a.m. – A Marchant Road resident informed police that she has been receiving harassing phone calls for the last month. The man on the other end told her she won a million dollars and she needs to contact his supervisor to claim the prize.

Winchester Police told the woman to speak to her phone company to have the number blocked.

3:17 p.m. – A Polk Road resident informed Winchester Police that a suspicious man knocked on his door and said that he was a surveyor for the town. The man said that he needed to go into his backyard to inspect the ground because the town needed to be digging a trench back there.

The Pollk Road resident told the officer that the man – a white male, 6-2, slender build – was gone by the time he got to the backyard.
