Police Log: Another Car Stolen and an Animal is Put Down

This is an excerpt of the Winchester Police Log from Wednesday, September1 through Tuesday, September 7.

Wednesday, Sep. 1, 9:32 a.m. – Winchester police arrived at Myrtle Street where a woman informed police that her car had been stolen. She said that the car was parked in her driveway on Sunday, August 30 and she noticed it missing on Tuesday.

Her family members did not take the car. The woman can longer drive due to medical conditions. The car was left unlocked and she left the keys in the center console after driving around with her brother on Sunday.

The State Police Department found the car later that day thanks to the Lojack system. The minivan was located in Woburn, but due to the number of prints on the car, it was impossible to find out who stole it.

Sunday, Sep. 5, 3:06 a.m. – Police were called to the station where a resident of Fells Road explained to the officer that her son had escaped from a mental rehabilitation clinic in Vermont and may be coming to Winchester or Stoneham.

He was upset because his mother would not take him to visit a friend who was stabbed in Stoneham. He suffers from paranoid schizophrania and did not take his medication before he escaped early Sunday morning at around 2 a.m.

The Winchester Police issued a be-on-the-lookout for the man. About two hours later the BOLO was cancelled as Vermont state police located the man.

Monday, Sep. 6, 11 a.m. – Winchester Police responded to Wincrest Drive where the homeowner told police that someone stole a pool pump for his inground pool. It's worth about $50. The man recently bought the property, but does not live there. He also informed the officer that the pump was listed on craigslist, but there was no address attached to the listing. The police suggested he secure some of the other items in the backyard and turn on some of the lights.

Monday, Sep. 6, 6:44 p.m. – Police were called to Cambridge Street to deal with a sick raccoon. The raccoon walked around the man's house and the officer said that the drunk didn't look well and seemed as if it were sick. The officer eliminated the animal and disposed of it at the transfer station.

9:39 p.m. – Police entered the Fells along South Border Road by the Water Treatment Plant. Officers will be making routine checks in this area because it's a commonplace for high school students to go, light fires and drink alcohol.

The officers noticed a fire in the area and heard people running away. The officers were able to spot them and called the rest out of hiding. They informed the students that it is illegal for them to light fires in the Fells and that this is a no trespassing area.

They also suggested the students inform their friends that the police will be making regular checks in the woods. None of the six kids were believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
