Police Log: Bread Thief Caught and Snow Blower Stolen

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Friday, Feb. 18 to Friday, Feb. 25.

Friday, Feb. 28, 4:09 p.m.  – A Main Street resident called police to report that his snow blower was stolen. The resident said that the blower was 32 inches wide and very heavy, and would have taken two people to lift it.

8:36 p.m. – While driving along Highland Avenue, Randall Proctor of Medford, lost control of his vehicle, went off the road and drove along a snow bank before coming to a stop. When the police asked him what happened, Proctor said that his engine blew up.

He then informed police that he was drunk, but wasn’t driving. According to the police report, Proctor said that another person was driving, but when the officer asked who that was, Proctor mumbled a name. When asked to repeat the name, he refused. The officer only noticed one set of footprints in the snow.

The man said that he doesn’t know who could have stolen it because a lot of people go in and out of his house. In the safe were a social security card, birth certificate, 20 $2 bills, a coin collection, a gold pen and a gold watch.

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 7:05 a.m. – A Green Chevy that belonged to a Woburn woman was seen slowing down in front of the Black Horse Tavern. This same vehicle, license plate and driver were the spotted on surveillance cameras a few weeks ago stealing bread from in front of the restaurant.

The Winchester Police arrived at the woman’s house and spoke to her regarding the bread. She admitted to stealing the bread, but told the officer she thought it was trash. She agreed to pay $30 for the bread that she stole.

Wednesday, Feb. 23, 11:05 a.m. – The owner of Peterson Party Center in Winchester went to the police station to report a larceny. He had arranged to rent 90 tables to a Rhode Island business back in September. The company picked up half, because that’s all that would fit in the truck, and left.

That business has yet to pay for the tables and the calls left to the business have gone unanswered. The man sent an employee there and found that the business is no longer there. To replace the tables it will cost $4,950.

He also reported another item that had been rented and never returned – a rotisserie grill valued at $1,375 that had been rented in the beginning of December. The man who borrowed it said a friend had it and he thought it had been returned. His friend informed the Winchester Police that he will return it to the store this Saturday.
