Police Log: Car Stolen and House Broken Into Last Week

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Monday, Dec. 6 to Monday, Dec. 13.

Monday, Dec. 6, 6:17 a.m. – A Cambridge Street tire shop caught video surveillance of a man stealing a 17-inch steel wheel from a 2011 Ford Fusion. The wheel costs about $300.

Tuesday, Dec. 7, 3:28 p.m. –  A Prospect Street resident called police to her house because she believed somebody had broken in. When police arrived they noticed a storm window that was removed. The officer believed the perpetrator use a crowbar to remove the window.

Inside the house, there was $25 worth of change removed. There was also 20 to 25 pills of Coumadin taken and about 15 pills of Percocet.

Wednesday, Dec. 8, 12:21 p.m. - While walking his dog along Cross Street, a Winchester resident had his begal attacked. There was a pit bull in a pick-up truck and it jumped out and ran over to the man's dog and bit him. The owner retrieved the pit bull and left without identifying himself.

Thursday, Dec. 9, 9:09 a.m. - While parked in the Aberjona parking lot, a Winchester resident told police that someone stole his spare tire and fiberglass tire cover off of his 2008 Rav 4.

10:11 a.m. –  Winchester Police were called to Main Street because of a report of a stolen bike. The owner of the bike said that they had left it in the shed and someone broke in and stole it. The only information the owners had on the bike was that it cost $1,200.

5:13 p.m. – A Wakefield contractor was working on a house along Washington Street. He had parked his van in the driveway of the house, left the door unlocked and the keys between the seats. When he went outside, the van was missing.

The man estimated that there was $10,000 worth of equipment in the van, along with his wallet. Later in the day he informed police that the received a report that someone used his credit card at Atlas Liquors in Medford. However, they do not have video cameras. The Winchester Police put out a be-on-the-lookout for the van (BOLO).

On Saturday the Somerville Police Department recovered the stolen vehicle. It was parked in the parking lot of the Somerville Stop & Shop. The police will look at the video surveillance of the super market. Nothing was taken from the van.

Saturday, Dec. 11, 11:11 p.m. - Winchester Police responded to Woodside Road where there was a car accident. The driver – a teenager – had been driving a Chevy Tahoe at approximately 40 to 50 mph along Woodside. The driver hit a sharp turn and the car flipped on its side.  The driver did no appear to be impaired and no one was hurt. However, the officer did find a bag that contained a few unopened cans of beer. The officer issued a citation to the driver for operating to endanger and transporting alcohol by a minor.

Sunday, Dec. 12, 6:59 a.m. – A teenage girl was driving along Forest Street when the car hit a patch of ice and sped off the road. The car glided into the other lane and hopped the curb smashing into a couple pine trees on someone else's property. The girl was not hurt and because of the road conditions and the fact that she was not speeding or impaired, no citation was given.

7:45 a.m. –  A woman was driving along Main Street when she tried to slow down before the traffic circle near Symmes Road. As she applied the brakes the car began to skid and continued straight into the rotary where the woman knocked of the blinking yellow light. She was not injured, but the light was torn out of the ground.
