Police Log: Dumpster Divers and Missing Bird Bath

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Monday, April 4 to Monday, April 11.

Thursday, April 7, 12:31 p.m. – While parked along South Border Road, a Winchester resident had her Toyota Prius broken into. She was in the Fells walking her dog and when she returned to her car, the passenger side window was smashed.

The woman’s bag was stolen. Inside was her wallet ($50), cash ($40), her credit cards, sunglasses ($350) and prescription glasses ($250). About an hour after speaking with police, the woman called the Winchester PD to inform them that her credit card had been used at a gas station in Woburn.

Friday, April 8, 5:10 p.m. – A George Road resident informed police that his bicycle—a Mongoose Cell—was stolen. The bike was last seen lying in his backyard.

Saturday, April 9, 12:31 p.m. – A Sylvester Avenue resident called police to his house to report a missing bird bath. The man informed police that the bath was approximately two-feet tall, made out of stone and is in the shape of a tulip or water lilly.

The man said that the bath is pretty heavy and would require two people to lift it. He said the bath was in the backyard of the house when he bought it, so he has no idea how much it costs.

9:08 p.m. – Winchester Sergeant Filtzer were called to Harrison Avenue in Woburn with the police dog, Axle. needed Axle to search the premises of a business on Harrison Avenue that had been broken into.

The police saw the door kicked in, but were unable to locate anyone else.

Sunday, April 10, 11:29 a.m. – While parked in the Long Pond Lot off of South Border Road, a Thornberry Road resident had her black purse stolen from her car. The woman said that while all the doors were locked, she did leave the passenger window partially open and left the bag in plain view.

Inside the purse was her passport, driver’s license, six credit cards and her blackberry.

7:39 p.m. – were called to High Street where a man and a woman were seen checking the contents of a dumpster. The officer saw a white pickup truck driving around the area with a male and female driver and pulled it over.

The driver, from Cambridge, called himself “a picker,” and after leaving the conservation area saw the dumpster and decided to “take a look.”

The officer then check the man’s information in the computer and the driver had an expired license, which he was cited for.
