Police Log: House Broken Into and Hoarder Told to Change Ways

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Friday, April 1 to Monday, April 4.

Friday, April 1, 10:30 a.m. – The were called to Forrest Street for a well-being check. The Winchester Savings Bank requested the check because they have been unable to contact the man for the past four days and he is disabled.

As the officer tried to open the door, he noticed an odor inside the house. He was also unable to open the rear door all the way because there was so much clutter and trash blocking the door. The officer said that he was unable to see the floor because there was so much trash.

The paramedics went upstairs where they found the man lying in his bed. They started shaking him, and the man rolled over and said, “I’m alive, I’m fine,” according to the Police Report.

The Board of Health and the Council on Aging were both called to the scene. The man lives alone and informed the officer and the board that he has not spoken to any of his family members in more than two decades.

The Board of Health told the man that they could legally quarantine the home if the issue was not resolved immediately. The man said he would do whatever he needed to in order to get his home back into the proper living condition. Both the Board of Health and the Council on Aging said they would continue to check up on the man.

11:50 a.m. – The Winchester Police were called to Calumet Road where a woman told police that her identity had been stolen. Four credit cards had been used in her name – Macy’s ($916), Chase Bank ($1,072.85), HSBC ($3,078.76) and Target ($1,042).

Saturday, April 2, 10:44 a.m. – An Arlington Street resident told police that she received suspicious phone calls. The man on the other line who called himself, David Wilson, asked the woman if she would like a Mercedes Benz. He said that if she wants the car, then she needs to mail him $199.

The call came from a restricted phone number. The officer told the woman to not give out any personal information over the phone and to have her phone company flag suspicious phone calls.

6:28 p.m. – An Amberwood Drive resident informed police that their home was broken into. Taken from the house was a gold, Presidential Rolex ($20,000), a gold chain with a cross ($5,000), and a wedding band ($1,000). All the items were located in a dresser. There was also a number of vicodin that was stolen.

The officer told the family that, since nothing else was stolen, it was probably someone who knew the family, since they knew where the jewelry was located. The man told the officer that the alarm system was turned off and the sliding door was left unlocked.
