Police Log: Man gets Hit by a Car and Dog Attacks Little Girl

This is an excerpt of the Winchester Police Log from Friday, August 20 through Monday, August 23.

Friday, August 20, 11 a.m. – When police arrived at Wildwood Street, the homeowner informed the officer that sometime in the past two weeks his car was broken into and the stereo was removed. Both the front and rear passenger windows were broken into.

11:28 a.m. –  Winchester Police arrived at the Jenks Center where a woman informed police that a member of the Jenks who lives on Palmer Street has her housing through the Winchester Housing Authority. She told police that it is against the rules for anyone else to live in the apartment, besides the person it is assigned to. She believed the man living with the woman was her son, Louis Amabello.

The officers returned to the station and searched Amabello's information. He had three default warrants issued for him. Police then arrived at Palmer Street and when Amabello opened the door, he was arrested.

5:26 p.m. – Winchester Police arrived at the Food Pantry along Main Street where a man was hit by a vehicle. The vehicle, which was driven by Mark Cogan, was backing out of its space and hit the man as he was walking to his car.

Cogan stated he never saw anyone walking behind his car. His truck hit the bystander in the stomach and he fell onto his right shoulder. He later complained of a shoulder injury. Cogan believed he was going 2 MPH, but the hit pedestrian said he was going "pretty fast." Cogan was issued a Citation, a criminal application for operating a vehicle with a revoked registration and operating an uninsured car.

6:39 p.m. – When police arrived at Swanton Street an owner of a motorcycle told police that the license plate that originally was on the bike was removed and another one was put in its place.

Sunday, August 22, 9:47 a.m. – When police arrived at Lawson Road, the owner of a Toyota Tundra told police that his car had been broken into. He left his walled in his unlocked car and the $200 he left in there was stolen.

 10:49 a.m. –Winchester Police were called to Black Horse Terrace where an unlocked car was broken into. The owner informed police that two computer charges were taken valuing approximately $100.

11:19 a.m. –  A car owner along Marshall Road had informed police that someone entered their vehicle over night. Her car was unlocked and a motorolla cell phone charge was stolen.

 1:09 p.m. – Two sisters and their cousin were walking their dog along Sheffield Road. They saw a large black german shepherd-looking dog run out of the front door of one of the houses. One of the girls feared the german shepherd was going to attack her dog, so she picked it up.

The shepherd leaped up to attack the smaller dog and knocked down the girl in the process. Before the dog was corralled by the owner of the house, it bit the dog and girl, puncturing her stomach.

9:30 p.m. – The Winchester police arrived at Church Street where a woman informed the officer that a cart had side-swiped her vehicle and drove off. The car was parked along the side of the street and when she went over to it, the owner noticed that the driver side mirror was damaged and there are scratches along the side of the car.

11:58 p.m. – An owner of a Lexus arrived at the police station to inform the officers that his unlocked vehicle was broken into. The only thing taken was a pair of Puma athletic shoes.
