Police Log: School Vandalized and Home Broken Into

This is an excerpt from the Winchester Police Log from Tuesday, April 19 to Thursday, April 21.

Tuesday, April 19, 10:49 a.m. – Lt. Filtzer of the Winchester Police Department brought Axle, the police dog to the Burlington Mall. There was a report of a man in Norstrom’s carrying a rifle. Filtzer, along with Axle and other police dog units, went throughout the mall looking for the man. The suspect in question was found and all he had was an umbrella inside a carrying case that looked like a firearm or a samurai sword.

11:22 a.m. – The Winchester Police were called to the Vinson-Owen School to investigate a report of vandalism. The custodian informed the officer that a window at one of the portable classrooms was shattered.

The officer noticed smudged fingerprints on the window, but the custodian said it’s unlikely they went inside the school because the motion sensor alarm never went off. The custodian said that nothing appeared to be missing.

Wednesday, April 20, 1:50 p.m. – A Dunster Lane resident told police that when she went out to her car this morning the door was slightly ajar and the contents of the center console were thrown on the seat.

The woman said nothing appears to be missing, but she informed the officer that her mother may be responsible for this. The woman had a restraining order against her in November, but did not renew it.

6:11 p.m. – A Manchester Road resident had her wallet stolen. She had it in Nelson’s Bakery and then went to work at Book Ends. But when she returned home, she noticed it was missing.

The woman said that someone from LL Bean Visa contacted her and said that someone used her card to purchase a Coca Cola from a vending machine and then spent a dollar at a Hess Gas Station.

The card was then used to try and withdraw money from an ATM, but it was denied.
