Police Log: Stolen Vehicle Found and Thefts Continue to Be a Summer Problem

This is an excerpt of the Winchester Police Log from Monday, August 9 through Wednesday, August 11.

Monday, August 9, 2:49 p.m. – While parked on Main Street, Winchester Police ran the license plates of a car. According to the information the officer received, the car was reported stolen. By the time the officer received the information the driver had already left.

Police issued a be-on-the-lookout (BOLO) and were told to go to Farrow Street. While there, the officer met with the driver of the vehicle. She informed police she purchased the car from her ex-boyfriend and pays it off through him, paying $2,000 a month.

The woman has since moved out of the state and got married. She informed police her once ex-boyfriend found out she left the state he reported the vehicle stolen. The police had the car towed away.

August 9, 7:17 p.m. – A Winchester resident called police to her home on Prince Road where she told police that sometime between July 31 and August 7, when she was on vacation, someone removed two checks from her mailbox, took her Sunday newspaper and stole some vegetables from her garden.

The checks were from her tenants and had not been cashed. None of her neighbors reported seeing anything suspicious during that time.

Tuesday, August 10, 8 a.m. – Winchester Police responded to Graystone Circle where a construction company informed the officer that a housing development they are working on had some copper wire stolen. The garage doors had not yet been installed, and that's how police believe, the thieves were able to get inside. They used the ladder to climb up ad cut the wire that ran across the ceiling.

August 10, 8:37 a.m. – Winchester Police took a report of larceny in the Public Safety Building lobby. The man told police that, while away on vacation, his laptop and daily planner were missing from his office hallway. There are other doctor offices in his building as well as a cleaning company.

The office suggested he check with the other doctors and the cleaning company to make sure they didn't see it. The officer also suggested the man secure his electronic devices and not leave them in a hallway if he's able to.

August 10, 9:29 a.m. – Police responded to Swanton Street where the owner told police that someone had cut a lock to his construction business and stole the compressor and some scrap wood located in the back shed.
