Police Log: Winchester Man Arrested and Youths Caught Stealing

The following information was supplied by the Winchester Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 25, 10:04 a.m. – A Winchester Police officer pulled over a Medford man for speeding on Highland Avenue, near Chestnut Street. The driver was going 45 mph in a 30 mph zone. The driver was issued a citation for not having insurance.

2:36 p.m. – In the beginning of July, Winchester Police were called to the Mystic School for a breaking and entering. According to the officer, the perpetrator entered the school through the gymnasium, walked to the main office, opened the sliding glass window and stole a Mac, desktop computer.

After looking over a list of employees, police questioned two Winchester minors who were serving their community service at the Recreation Department for stealing a canoe and a row boat from the Boat Club.

After multiple interrogations, the two 16-year-old boys, admitted to stealing the computer and the hard drive. They also told police that they sold the computer on EBay.

They were charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.

5:08 p.m. – While driving along Forest Street, an Oak Street resident told police that a deer had jumped out of the woods and landed on her car and windshield.

The woman, who was with her nine-year-old son were treated at the scene and sent home. The car, a Toyota van, needed to be towed.

5:31 p.m. – Winchester resident, Glenn Powers, was arrested for domestic assault and battery.

Tuesday, July 26, 11:57 a.m. – A Bradford resident was walking with her son along Leonard Field when a leashed, dark-colored dog (possibly a Doberman Pincher) bit her son’s left leg, breaking the skin.

The doctor wanted the woman to find the dog before he administered any vaccines. Winchester Police have been unable to locate the animal.

6:40 p.m. – A Forest Street resident informed police that their home had been broken into. The perpetrator broke a window in the basement in order to gain access to the home. The burglar stole a Mac laptop, Flip camera and jewelry.

Wednesday, July 27, 2:33 p.m. – A truck crashed into the light pole in front of Book  Ends, knocking it down.

4:28 p.m. – A Grove Street resident told police that she placed a package on her front step to be picked up by UPS, but saw a teenager, on a bike ride up and take one of the packages.

The woman said this boy stole water bottles from her front stoop once. At that time she told him, “If you want water, just ask.” The boy, then reportedly turned and gave her the finger. He then put all the empty water bottles on her lawn.
