Police Logs for May 16 and May 17

Wednesday, May 16

9 a.m.: An Acura struck a Lexus in a head-on collision on Main Street near Cross Street. Both vehicles sustained major damage, and the operators were transported to the Lahey Clinic. The driver of the Acura was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, marked lanes violation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle while using a cell phone.

5:44 p.m.: There was a hit and run at the stop sign of Mystic Valley Parkway. Victim could not get the offender's license plate number.

Thursday, May 17

8:45 a.m.: A Jeep Grande Cherokee was broadsided by a Toyota 4Runner at the intersection of Church Street and Wedgemere Avenue.

10:32 p.m.: An officer observed a Mercedes traveling west on Church Street at the intersection at High Street. The vehicle was speeding, and the driver swerved, crossing the yellow line to avoid an oncoming vehicle, which was turning on to Wedgemere Avenue. The Mercedes then rolled through a red light on to Cambridge Street and sped up to 55 mph traveling north on Cambridge Street. The vehicle drifted over the yellow line again. The Mercedes then turned left on Wildwood Street, and the officer hit the lights. The vehicle stunk of alcohol, and the driver produced a license and a retired state police badge. The driver’s eyes were glossy and bloodshot. When the officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle, the driver seemed unsteady on his feet. He seemed confused as to why he was pulled over, stating that he had not been speeding, did not run through a red light and had not been drinking. He correctly stated the alphabet when asked to take a soibriety test. When asked to perform the leg lift test, the driver could not. The officer placed the driver under arrest for OUI-liquor. During the transportation time, he made several derogatory comments about the . He refused a breathalyzer test and asked to be “PC’ed” and drop the operating under the influence charges. The officer issued a citation for OUI, speeding, (55 in 35), failure to keep right and failure to stop for a red light. He was bailed out. Stephens towed the car to their yard in Medford.
