Police Logs: Metal Stolen from Vinson-Owen Construction Site

Friday, July 6

2:13 p.m.: Vandalism to a Ford Explorer on Hemingway Street was reported. The front passenger window was smashed, but nothing was taken from the car. A GPS holder and blue tooth receiver were visible. The driver said there were expensive sunglasses and a laptop in the car, but they were not taken.

Saturday, July 7

10:21 a.m.: A Woburn resident was charged with attaching wrong motor vehicle license plates, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle upon a public way and operating an uninsured motor vehicle upon a public way. The officer pulled over the driver of a Ford F-150 on Main Street because the truck was missing the inspection sticker. The driver produced an expired Illinois license, but couldn’t provide any other paperwork on the vehicle. The officer learned the plates were registered for a Jeep. The driver explained he had just bought the truck and hadn’t registered his vehicle yet. The truck was towed by Mal’s Towing.

2:37 p.m.: A Ford Explorer was damaged by another vehicle while parked on Washington Street. The molding was damaged and scratches filled the left side of the vehicle. No one left a note identifying themselves as the person who sideswiped the vehicle.

11 p.m.: A Honda Accord was hit by an unknown vehicle while parked in front of a driveway on Lincoln Street. The left front quarter panel and door were damaged. No one left a note identifying themselves as the person who hit the car.

Sunday, July 8

12:23 p.m.: A resident brought a duffle bag to the Police Station that she had found in her front yard. The bag contained a Kindle, Mac tablet and other items. The officer was able to locate the owner’s information, but unable to make contact with them.

Monday, July 9

10:43 a.m.: Approximately 1,000 feet of metal welding line and 30 welding end-caps were stolen from the Vinson-Owen construction site over the weekend. The welding line is valued at $3.70 a foot totaling $3,700, and the end-caps are valued at $26 a piece totaling $780. An H.B. Welding employee said the material was chained together and bolt cutters would have to be used to remove it. The employee said there will be more security of the construction site and requested more police presence.

12:31 p.m.: One bathroom at the Ginn Field was vandalized over the weekend. A dirt-covered metal pipe was found in front of the bathroom door, and the officer reported the perpetrator broke the metal door handle by striking it with the pipe. Detectives were called because a dirty hand print and partial dirty boot print was found. The detective was unable to lift a fingerprint, but took photos of the evidence that will later be processed.

1:18 p.m.: A Nissan was traveling behind a rental truck on South Border Road. The driver of the truck explained he was making a delivery on Alice Lane, but passed the turn. The driver stopped on South Border Road and began to back up and hit the Nissan. The Nissan had damage to the front bumper and hood.

5:07 p.m.: A Volvo Utility pulled out of the Aberjona Nursing Home driveway on Swanton Street and collided with a Cadillac when she was attempting a left hand turn and did not yield the right of way. The pregnant driver of the Cadillac was transported to Winchester Hospital after hitting her head on the steering wheel. The driver of the Volvo was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way. Stephen’s Towing removed both vehicles.

11:33 p.m.: An employee from the Winchester Country Club reported his bicycle valued at $500 was stolen from the bike rack near the entrance of the club. The bike was not locked.

Tuesday, July 10

12:24 a.m.: After returning from vacation, a resident reported $300 missing from her safe in her home. The envelope originally contained $500. The resident said she had a friend check on the house during her vacation and found the front door to be unlocked. She also contacted her cleaning service that stated that the door was locked when they left. There were no signs of forced entry or other items missing, and the safe appeared to have been opened with a key. The key was in the house while the family was on vacation. A detective was going to follow up with this case.
