Police Logs: More Thefts at Vinson-Owen Construction Site

The following information is supplied by the Winchester Police Department. These do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 16

10:04 a.m.: Approximately 600 feet of welding lead cable was stolen from the construction site. The cable is valued at $8 per foot totaling $4,800. The cable was secured on the roof with a lock and chain. HB Welding also reported 600 feet of stud lead cable and 400 feet of lead cable were stolen from a locked box truck in front of the building. The padlock was cut on the truck where the stud lead cable with 1 inch of copper wire valued at $12,000 and the lead cable with .5 inch of copper wire valued $3,200 was taken. A stud gun in the truck was also damaged by having the cord cut off.

The chain was cut on Ridge Street entrance to the construction site. Wheel barrels were also found near the entrance. The officer said he believed the two wheel barrels were used to transport the cables.

HB Welding said the fences and locks would be replaced and requested overnight and weekend checks from the .

7 p.m.: A silver Volvo parked on Church Street appeared to have been grazed by another vehicle because the bumper was hanging off. Another resident reported the vehicle. The owner did not know about the damage and had last seen the vehicle at noon.

10:03 p.m.: Six copper sheets were taken from the driveway of a Chesterford Road East home. The sheets painted with cream paint are worth $400 total. The owner said the sheets were in plain view of the street and were taken between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

10:12 p.m.: A vehicle with tinted taillights was pulled over on Cambridge Street. The officer detected the scent of marijuana and searched the vehicle. The officer found a bag of marijuana in a Ford zipper case under the passenger seat and an expandable baton next to the driver’s seat. The Woburn driver was issued a citation for defective equipment and a Town Bylaw citation. His parents were notified of the situation.

Tuesday, July 17

11:52 a.m.: An abandoned bicycle was found at . The restaurant owner said the bike had been parked outside for three weeks. The bike was left unlocked on a bike rack and the owner moved it to an alleyway next to his shop. Since no one came to claim it, he said he believed it was abandoned.
